What is Twitter?
Twitter is a web service that allows people to send out updates or Tweets about what they're doing, or what's going on right now.
How does News Talk Radio use Twitter?
Twitter is the platform that News Talk Radio uses to deliver breaking news alerts to you. Not only will you get them in the Twitter world online, but if you connect your cell phone to the service, you will also receive any Breaking News "Tweets" from us there too.
How do I get setup?
Signing Up for Twitter
If you're not a Twitter user already click here to fill out the sign-up form. You don't need to provide much info... just a username, your password, and e-mail address.
You'll get a screen asking Are your friends on Twitter? We'll skip this for now... if you want to do this later, you can.
After clicking 'skip', you'll arrive at the main Twitter page.
Now... we're going to set up your cell phone to receive alerts from Twitter! (If you only plan on following us online and not by text message, you can skip to the section titled 'Follow Us'.)
Setting Up Your Phone on Twitter
At the top of the screen, click on the link that says Settings. Your user profile will pop up. You can fill out the rest later on... for now, we want to click on the tab labeled Devices.
A screen will come up asking you to enter your cell phone number. If you are in Canada or the US, you'd enter +1(area code)(phone number). So, if my number is 306-123-4567... I'd enter +13061234567. Be sure to click the little checkbox that says 'it's okay for Twitter to send txt messages to my phone.' (By the way... check with your cell phone provider as to what the cost is for receiving messages from Twitter. It may range from $0 to a few cents a message.)
Once you've entered your phone number and clicked the checkbox, click Save. Twitter will then send you a text message to confirm that it's really you connecting your cell phone to their service. Once you've completed the confirmation, your phone will now be connected to Twitter!
Follow Us
Now... it's time to Follow News Talk Radio on Twitter.
To do that, click this link. This is our Twitter page.
Below our icon is a button that says Follow. Click it. You are now following us on Twitter!
If you've set your phone up to receive updates, you'll need to do one more step - and that's enable Device Updates.
Click where it says Following and turn Device Updates 'On'. Once you do this... you'll be getting updates from News Talk Radio delivered to your Cell Phone!
You're now following us on Twitter! Now, anytime there is breaking news, you'll get notified by text message!
