About 250 people in Saskatoon are taking cold showers because they still don't have natural gas service.

SaskEnergy shut off the gas in the area around 11th Street and Saskatchewan Crescent after part of the riverbank collapsed and affected one of SaskEnergy's pipelines.

It is taking longer to restore service, because there is no quick fix, said Casey McLeod, Senior Communications Officer with SaskEnergy.

Right now, crews on focusing on restoring service to two apartment buildings in the area.

"(The apartments) were previously served from a different main, but that main is obviously in the area where there was all the ground movement. So, we don't feel comfortable yet turning that gas back on," she said.

Instead, SaskEnergy will be adjusting natural gas to come from a more reliable main line.

"We will be running a new service line to these apartment buildings off of an existing main that we have that is outside of the area where all the ground movement happened."

That work is expected to be finished in the next couple of days. Then, SaskEnergy crews will use a similar solution on a different area.

"Our next area of focus will be restoring natural gas service to the remaining buildings along Saskatchewan Crescent. We will be doing something similar. We will be running new lines from some existing pipeline that is outside that area of ground movement."
