Starting in September, members of the media will be able to tweet, text or send an email from all Saskatchewan courtrooms.
The Saskatchewan Law Courts announced the decision in a news release Wednesday, joining provinces like Alberta, New Brunswick and British Columbia that also allow tweeting and texting. Nova Scotia allows courtroom texting but not tweeting, unless specified by a judge.
The new protocol requires journalists to have special identification in order to use their phones, laptops and tablets while in court.
However, judges still reserve the right to ban electronics in certain situations.
