Saskatchewan born, NHL enforcer Derek Boogaard's death has been ruled accidental.

A coroner says the death was caused by a combination of alcohol and oxycodone.

Oxycodone is a powerful painkiller that can be addictive and has been blamed in some overdose deaths.

Boogaard, 28, was found dead in his apartment in Minnesota last Friday.

His funeral is being held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the RCMP Depot in Regina.

Boogaard was born in Saskatoon but raised in Regina. He started his junior hockey career with the Regina Pats before playing for the Minnesota Wild and New York Rangers in the NHL.
