An explosion of colour is set to fill the sky in Saskatoon today and tomorrow for the fifth annual Potash Corp Fireworks Festival.

There will be two big fireworks displays starting at 9:30 p.m. each night.

"Each show will fire probably about 1,000 different effects each night so there's certainly going to be a gorgeous show to watch," said festival director Shad Ali, adding that this year there will be a special theme.

"We're the kickoff to country music week which starts off this week in Saskatoon and across the country," he said, so "the theme that we will incorporate in everything we do this weekend will be country music."

In addition to fireworks, the festival will also host a number of other activities.

"There's plenty to do. I mean everything from face painting, to jumpy toys and lots of games and song going on throughout both days," said Ali of the activities that are set to start at 5 p.m.

In order to acccomodate the different activities, some streets around River Landing will be shut down for the festival. That includes the Broadway Bridge, which will be closed between 7:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. on both nights.
