High school students in Estevan affected by flooding are getting a break from final exams.

It's estimated that one in every eight kids at the Estevan school are going home to flooding or new accommodations all together.

School principal Mike Little says this is why the school is cutting them some slack.

“We have asked our teachers to be compassionate. The people that are working with the floods have more on their mind right now then just trying to do a final,” said Little.

Students directly affected by the floods are being given the option to skip their final exams and take the grades as they are.

The school services some of the worst hit areas to the south as well as Roche Percee.

Little says he is impressed students are coming into school at all.

“Kids want to talk about it. They’re happy to get here, be with their friends and talk about their experiences. That’s the best medicine right now,” said Little.
