Battlefords RCMP officer narrowly missed by alleged impaired driver

Battlefords RCMP say one of their members was narrowly missed by an alleged impaired driver overnight.

The officer was putting out a spike strip on Highway 4 north of the Battlefords at the time of the near miss.

A second spike belt forced the vehicle to stop, and the driver and passenger were arrested.

Police say he had been pulled over on supsicious of impaired driving, but took off as the officer approached.

A 20-year-old man was due in court Friday morning, facing charges that include impaired driving, assault with a weapon, and driving while being pursued.
