24-year-old man charged in connection to fatal fire
Fire investigators say an unsupervised hot plate was the cause of the fire

A 24-year-old man is charged with criminal negligence causing death
in connection to a fatal blaze six months ago.
Fire investigators said
60-year-old Daniel Shepherdson died from smoke inhalation in January after a hot
plate had been left unsupervised at his Avenue D North
building.
Emergency crews at the time thought everyone had escaped the
building. Police said Shepherdson remains were discovered after the fire was
extinguished.
The 24-year-old is scheduled to make his first court
appearance Wednesday afternoon, where his name will be released.
