Lentil Processing Plant in Wilkie Gets a Boost
It's a move aimed at taking Saskatchewan pulses to every corner of the globe.
Alliance Grain Traders is spending $1.5 million to expand its Finora Wilkie processing plant.
President Murad Al-Katib says it will expand the processing capacity for green lentils by 40 per cent.
"And we're adding in three colour sorting lines there, as well, to be able to [provide] more high-value packaged green lentils to the world," he explains.
Al-Katib says taking high-value products to key markets leads to better prices for growers and more profitability for the industry.
"We want to continue to take Saskatchewan farmers' product directly to end-use markets in every corner of the globe," he adds. "And from that perspective, we need technology."
The company is also donating $100-thousand for improvements to Wilkie's recreation complex.
