Wild Dogs Not a Provincial Issue
The case of wild dogs roaming free attacking people in northern Saskatchewan is not a provincial issue.
Minister of Municipal Affairs Jeremy Harrison tells us the Wall government introduced a bill that puts the responsibility in the hands of municipalities. "It will give local councils the authority to deal with these stray packs of dogs that are causing a threat to citizens in the community."
The bill doesn't apply to First Nations which fall under federal jurisdiction but Harrison says band chiefs and councils have the power to deal with the wild dogs any way they see fit.
A 10 year-old boy was mauled to death on the Canoe Lake Cree Nation four days ago. 93 per cent of voters in Tuesday's News Talk Radio web poll say all wild dogs in the north should be killed
