Even though he wasn't there at the time

The leader of a high-profile gang will soon be behind bars.

Shawn Curtis Keepness has been found guilty of playing a role in a 2007 multiple stabbing that left one man dead and two others injured. But the alleged leader of the Native Syndicate Killers wil have to wait until later this month to be sentenced for charges of manslaughter and two counts of aggravated assault.

Justice Catherine Dawson handed down the decision this morning at the Court of Queen's Bench, even though Keepness wasn't actually present for the home invasion that left 19-year-old Wilton Lavallee dead and two of his brothers injured - one with a stab wound to his chest.

The June 8th, 2007 incident materialized after Keepness ordered other NSK gang-members to storm an enemy's home - thought to have drugs and money inside.

Judge Dawson's decision to find him guilty is based on previous cases in Canadian courts where the pursuasion of others to commit a crime is ultimately as punishable as commiting the crime itself. In this case, Keepness had the knowledge that his plan to rush the residence on Athol Street could lead to serious bodily harm - and it did.

Four other accomplices in the home invasion have already pleaded guilty to their roles. They are all serving penitentiary terms, leaving only ten to fifteen NSK gang members left in the community.

Shawn keepness will face sentencing later this month.
