Santa's Anonymous 2009 Kicks Off
A bit of Christmas cheer struck the Regina chapter of the Salvation Army today as the charitable organization celebrated the kick-off of another Santa's Anonymous campaign.
The lobby of the building was filled with 25 families Tuesday afternoon, all looking to get on the list for News Talk 980's annual charity toy drive. The goal of Santa's Anonymous is to ensure every child in the city gets a gift on Christmas morning by collecting donations and delivering them to needy families.
The Salvation Army's Val Wiks says Tuesday's turnout speaks to the difference the program has made in its 40-year history.
"They trust us and I see that there's ag reat need that wasn't maybe there in the past. Sometimes people have applied just for something to do, but this year I see an actual need. Sometimes people have seen a line and said, 'Oh well, I'll come back later.' This is the first time I've seen a line like this."
The Sally Ann and the Food Bank are partners with CJME on the effort. You can help by dropping a new, unwrapped toy into the donation barrels found at businesses all over the city. You can also check out this web page for more information.
