City Committee Meets In Secrecy

Transparency was a big issue in election campaign
Story Tools

A Saskatoon City Councillor is speaking out against what she feels is a lack of transparency at city hall.  City Council's Executive Committee, which comprises all members of Council, held its first formal meeting after the election Monday afternoon behind closed doors.

Councillor Pat Lorje says one of the dangers council members face is the perception they are only talking amongst themselves.  She says at least three of the items on the agenda for the meeting, were issues "...that were discussed with amazing frequency on the doorstep during the election campaign."

But Mayor Don Acthison is not concerned about the optics.  He says some things need to be dicussed behind closed doors before they can go to the public level.

Council's next regular meeting will be held next Monday.
