Regina Building Permits Continue Record Pace
For the fifth straight year in a row Regina is setting a new record for the value of building permits issued.
Adding up the numbers to the end of October the total lies just under $380 million, higher than the $340 million accumulated in the entirety of 2008.
City Building Division Manager Gary Wasyliw says the spike in permit values seen back in July has carried through the rest of the year.
"It's attributed once again to a lot of the larger projects. Back in July we were trying to be a little cautious with our estimates. We knew we would be close or equal last year's total but in fact it has surpassed it and from the activity we see it will probably continue."
The numbers were boosted by the first waves of construction at Harbour Landing and the Global Transportation Hub, as well as major projects at Evraz Place, the University of Regina, and Casino Regina.
