Regina Kayaker Has Medals Stolen
Kia Byers is hoping she'll see her hard-earned medals again. The Regina native, and member of the Canadian Canoe and Kayaking team, was in Saskatoon on Monday afternoon when her car was broken into and a backpack containing her 2007 Pan Am Games gold medal and 2009 World Chamionship bronze medal were stolen.
Byers, 21, was in Saskatoon participating in various public speaking engagements to promote the upcoming Vancouver Olympic Games, and was using the medals as a "show and tell" tool.
"The medals are worthless", Byers told News/Talk radio. "They don't cost that much to make. The reason they are special is because I had to race to win them."
Byers says she prepared to offer a reward to anyone who can retrieve her medals. Those with information related to the theft are asked to contact the Saskatoon Police Department.
