Hot temperatures have dealers busy.

They're a summertime saviour.

Air conditioners repairs and sales rise with the temperatures.

"We're very, very busy as soon as the first heat wave hits." said Kim Wilson, a longtime HVAC (Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning) Technician with J & A Heating in Saskatoon.

"The phone is ringing off the hook."

Wilson said people don't wait very long into the summer weather to try and beat the heat.

"Some have no air conditioning and they require quotes and a lot of the calls are people that have them already and need a repair or replacing."

Wilson said how well air conditioners work highly depend on how clean their filter is. He said making sure the furnace filter is clean is very important for air flow as well.

Wilson said the average cost of a furnace system is around $2500 to install. The cost can go up depending on how old your home is because they have to 'retro fit'. He said that it's a lot cheaper to put A/C in when a home is initially built.

Wilson has tips for those who already have A/C.

"Don't wait until the house heats up to turn it on," advised Wilson. "They're much more efficient if you set them at the temperature you want the house to be, and let it start up as soon as the house starts to warm up."

For those that dont:

"The primary benefit is comfort. It's a reasonable cost, they're energy efficient, O-zone friendly, and it adds a selling feature to your house." said Wilson.

And most of all.

"This climate can get real hot. And an air conditioner can come in real handy."
