Story Tools

Saskatoon Police want local business owners to be on the lookout for fraud within their businesses.

This as investigators look into a number of complaints involving fraudulent activity by workers in Saskatoon.

Police realized that in some cases, employees in question had past frauds that were never reported to police.

Recently a 40 year old woman was sentenced to 24 months in jail on a charge of Fraud over $5,000.

Police say Michelle Lee Boyd had been responsible for more than $300,000 worth of fraudulent transactions while she was the manager of a Saskatoon business.

She was also sentenced to an additional seven months on outstanding fraud related charges in Alberta.

Unfortunately, this is a byproduct of a severe labor shortage in the service sector. Employers are so desperate for staff, especially during the Christmas season, they will hire anyone that walks throught the door and wants to work. This opens the door for fraudsters to easily gain employment with little diligence done, or any resume requested.
