Record Boxes Found At The Correctional Centre

Contain offender program files and personnel information
Story Tools

A box containing correctional centre records has been found in a storage room at the Regina Correctional Centre this weekend.

The boxes contain files that aren't in use but still have personnel and offender information inside, which should be stored securely under the Archives Act.

The issue though is where the storage room is according to the Minstry's Judy Orthner, which is next to the kitchen and very active and busy public area.

It is thought the boxes ended up there during the move form the 1913 section to the new wing of the correctional centre.

The Information and Privacy Commissioner has also been informed.

Go Public

IMHO all criminal records should be accessable by the public. When someone commits a crime against society I do not understand why there should be any expectation of confidentiality. As it is employers can, and do, request criminal record checks for potential employees, so why not let the public go in themselves and see just who has done what to who. This would help employers to identify potential fraudsters and bad hires in advance.
