Major Power Outage in Central Saskatchewan
Many homes have been without power in Saskatoon and other areas in Central Saskatchewan.
Sask Power spokesman Larry Christie says it looks like someone took target practise and shot off two insulators along a major 72 kilovolt line southwest of Saskatoon.
As a result Power was out on the west and north ends of Saskatoon, and as far west as Purdue and Biggar; as far north as Prince Albert, Shellbrook and Wakaw.
Sask Power crews diverted electricity from other lines to most affected customers until it got those insulators fixed around midnight. However, customers in the area southwest of Saskatoon where the insulators were shot, will probably not see their power return until midnight.
Christie says if the insulators were indeed shot off, Sask Power will ask police to investigate.
Saskatoon police report no major problems as a result of the outage. Some police officers spent Saturday night directing traffic at major intersections where the lights were out.

Not south west, North west of the city.
I saw two flashes of light, almost like lightening when I was driving in from Delisle. The flashes were north of #7 highway. The first I saw when I got on the double lane and the next was when I got to the train overpass.
power out
I saw those exact same flashes of light coming back from Delisle. When I got to the city, just past the ESSO I saw the street lights turn on. It was about 6PM, then I saw sparks like fireworks coming from the residntial area, and all went black.

I live on the 11th street extension, west of the #7, on my way home i saw a number of SaskPower vans gathered around the Transformer station (just down beside the train overpass) Could that be where the source was?

Billions of dollars spent on
Billions of dollars spent on gun control legilsation so more politions have "so called important" jobs which in the end our police can't even prevent occurrences like these. If our gov would have put those dollars into policing/prevention, I think there would be a different outcome.
I agree that billions were
I agree that billions were wasted on gun control. People will always be able to acquire firearms, no matter what legislations are put into place.
I do not believe that any amount of extra tax dollars spent on 'policing/prevention' would ever prevent a doped up lunatic from shooting power lines in rural Saskatchewan.
