Report: Tell Ministers Sooner When Safety at Risk

Review comes after people mistakenly released from courts in Saskatoon and Regina
Story Tools

Senior Ministers will be informed immediately the next time court or justice workers mistakenly release someone who is supposed to remain in custody.

Back in October, two people were let go from courts in Saskatoon and Regina. On Friday Deputy Justice Minister Doug Moen released his reports on the two incidents.

The report recommends ministers be told immediately when public safety is at risk.  And it also says the deputy Corrections Public Safety and Policing (CPSP) minister’s suspension has been lifted.  Terry Coleman was suspended pending the review. However he has now been moved to another portfolio.

CPSP Minister Darryle Hickie says he was moved as part of a routine shuffle and it had nothing to do with what happened.

Others further down the chain were disciplined however no one was fired.  Justice Minister Don Morgan says it would be unfair for someone to lose their job when no proper protocols were in place at the time.  Morgan blames that on the NDP.  “We went for a number of years throughout the entire previous administration where there was no protocol in place,” he says.  “So it’s not fair to blame the employees entirely.”

Both Morgan and Hickie say all the recommendations will be implemented.

Okay, good thing some proper

Okay, good thing some proper protocols are being put in place. Why is no one being fired or disciplined? When the Sask Party took over, should someone in the Ministers office or somewhere down the line gone through procedures or protocals when they took to ensure everything was in place that should be?? Should Terry Coleman not have known better, being the ex police chief from Moose Jaw? Sounds like someone is covering someone else's behind so as not to make the Sask Party look bad.
