Quarterback Michael Bishop Waived by Riders

Took Heat for Performance in Semi-Final
Story Tools

"Get rid of Bishop" was a common refrain from fans filing out of Mosaic Stadium Saturday, after the Riders were knocked out of the playoffs by the BC Lions. The team may have been thinking the same thing.

The Roughriders confirm that quarterback Michael Bishop has been placed on waivers by the Roughriders. If another team doesn't claim him in 48 hours, he'll become a free agent.

Bishop was heavily criticized for his play during Saturday's game. The offense failed to score a touchdown in a performance marred by seven turnovers. Three of those were Bishop interceptions.

If Bishop departs, that would leave the team with four quarterbacks: Darian Durant, Steven Jyles, Drew Tate, and Dalton Bell.

Bishop

Its about time, I wish the coaching staff would of had the gumption to do this earlier. I sure hope the coaching staff get a good talking to by management for the way the game went on Saturday. I imagine that Jyles and Durant are happy now but it may be too late to please them

Come on folks.... let's use

Come on folks.... let's use the correct words: "should of"??? this doesn't make sense. what you meant to use is the contraction for 'should have' which is 'should've' and pronounced 'should of'. wut are they teaching in skools theze daze?

QB situation

You know it wouldn't be a bad thing to bring back Marcus Crandell as Darian Durant's backup. Maybe even have Crandell and Jyles compete for the number 2 spot.

The key would be anointing Durant as the undisputed number one starter.

Bishop should of been let go

Bishop should of been let go after the 1st quarter, what a crappy game he played did not step up to the plate and cant believe Miller did not have the courage to of made a call on qb situation.

We all realize in order to have a legitimate shot at the CFL it is crucial to have a starting qb that is capable, go head hunting and get a real qb.

Michael Bishop and his departure

I think it is safe to say that Michael Bishop never fit in with this organization or his teammates. That being said, he shouldn't take all the heat. The offensive and defensive lines for the Riders were clearly outplayed by their BC Lion counterparts, and BC showed right from the get go they were not going to be intimidated. The premise of being a team is that you have success together and enjoy the glory, and lose together and stick up for each other. Right now their just seems to be a lot of finger pointing. Ken Miller is the Coach of the Year, hands down. He is a great Coach who dealt thru more adversity than any other football Coach ever has with a team. The team was fun to watch this year and kept you guessing the whole year due to injuries, QB's etc. The younger players on this team received more "game and life" experience than any practice squad would give them. If you truly are part of this larger than life "13th man", support this team thru the bad times and send them home happy and ready to come back next year. There is more to being the "13th man" than making noise in a stadium and putting a watermelon on your head. So put an elastic band around your head and snap out of it!

Very well said, some of the

Very well said, some of the comments heard in the stands and since the game really make me question our reputation as "the worlds greatest fans". It was amazing this team was able to accomplish what they have with the amount of injuries sustained. Miller and Tillman deserve better than this from us. Does anybody remember Barrett and Shivers?

Miller should be the next to

Miller should be the next to go!!!

Why is it every year it

Why is it every year it seems that there is a quarterback controversy?

Lets not put all of the

Lets not put all of the blame on Miller. He went with what he was given. I sincerely believe Tillman should shoulder alot of the blame here.

1) He traded Joseph in the offseason for nothing. He believed Crandell could get it done. Dont tell me money was an issue as every other team in the lague can give top notch money to a QB.

2) He got rid of Crandell after two games off the injured list with no front line receivers healthy ( Dressler was yet to amaze ). Sure could have used Crandell down the stretch when the coaches were preaching protect the ball.

3) He traded for Bishop and let the coaches run way to long with him. Bishop was a 2nd string QB his whole career , but for some reason Tillman believed he could be more.

4) He allowed Miller et al to make ridiculous decisions regarding the rotation , or whatever you call it, of our QB's. At some pt. the GM has to step in and provide direction as he is ultimately responsible.

lets not let the love affair with Tillamn let him off without shouldering his fair share of the blame.

Crandell???...Boy I wish

Crandell???...Boy I wish people would just let Crandell go already, nice guy was a good QB, but let's face it his career is over. I would like to see him as a coach though, great team guy, but he can't play anymore, fact of life.
I heard Miller say to many people blame MB, and asked that the blame be put on him, I say ok, it's yours.
