NDP Take Time To Reflect

Shut out for third time
Story Tools

For the third straight time the NDP has been wiped off the federal map in Saskatchewan. And now the party is taking stock of it's future

NDP campaign manager Don Black is disappointed with the lack of showing in the election.

And he maintains it is time for some self-examination and return to the grassroots.

In the past Black thinks the NDP hasn't been able to translat it's national agenda on the local stage.

He hopes by remaining a strong team that can be overcome in the future.

Why the NDP are not getting elected

The problem with the NDP federally and why they cannot get elected is somewhat simple. The federal NDP are not the provincial NDP and the fact that their policies are more eastern based with a bias towards the Toronto crowd does not resonate with Saskatchewan voters. Whereas the provincial branch of the NDP are financially prudent the federal party are big spenders. Where the provincial party has shown a willingness to change their stances on many social and economic policies the federal party remains lockinstep to their ideology which is not atuned to the realities of everyday residents of our province. The policies dealing with the enviorment may sell in Toronto where the bastion of the federal vote lies but is awkward and unworkable in the vast area which encompasses our province. The fact that the federal NDP is seen to be weak on crime, Chamberlainistic towards terrorism and out of touch with many core values of Saskatchewan residents is why the party is in the situation it is now shut out the last three elections. Taliban Jack appeals high on the leaders popularity but the message is what is his weakeness.
