Cougar Shot in Saskatoon
officers say tranquilizing wasn't an option
Turns out a caller to police may have been correct.
Saskatoon Police say someone reported seeing one of the wild cats in the 300 Block of Avenue J South just after 9 a.m. Tuesday.
The concerned person said it was heading toward 20th.
Conservation officers did find a full grown cougar near 19th and J. The officers shot it twice, however, it was loaded into the truck still breathing.
Police say that it was descided that tranquilizing the cougar would present too great a risk to the public.

They did not have to shot
They did not have to shot and kill it. It had been "roaming" around the city for who knows how long what would have 5 more mins done to save an animal. Yes if people where in imediate danger yes shot and kill it. Now the question is if the animal was still breathing did the officers take it to a vet or to the zoo and maybe it could have lived from the bullet wounds? We must look into a better program to deal with wild animals that enter the city. Shot to kill is not always the best option.
Coug in Saskabush
The general public does not share your concern. The officers did what was necessary at the time. Hind sight is always 20-20.
I'm sure if it was you that
I'm sure if it was you that lived in the area and had kids you wouldn't want that cat roaming around. Ya you could wait 5 more minutes to do something else but in 1 minutes it attacks and kills someone. Then what, then you look like an ass!!!!
what did the cougar do
what did the cougar do wrong?? It doesnt know better...but the sad thing is it was in the city for awhile before they killed it and it didnt hurt anyone...it wasnt even threating any body. this got me really mad when i heard about it... they should have tried to tranquiliz it and atleast have some one waiting with a loading gun in case it gose carzy but did thye no... you could tell me any thing u wanted and i still wouldnt change my mind about how i feel!!!
