More Building Permits Issued In Regina

Value is down despite increase
Story Tools

The city of Regina's building permits are continuing to show some mixed results when compared to last year's levels. While the city may be on pace for lower values, construction appears to be increasing nonetheless.

In nearly every category, the total number of permits is higher with the biggest gains apparently coming from homeowners. Specifically, residential additions (general alterations or additions), accessory buildings, and recreational add-ons. More than 150 have been done this year than last for an increase in the year-to-date value of more than $2,000,000 -- fairly significant for small-scale projects.

Where the figures fall behind is the commercial/industrial/government side. Several categories are significantly lower, resulting in about $45,000,000 less in total construction than year-to-date for 2007. About $30,000,000 of that can be chalked up to the lower value of existing commercial projects.
