The Culex Tarsalis has been found in Saskatoon.  The mosquito believed to carry the West Nile Virus was found in a trap on Tuesday.  However city officials say it needs to be sent to a lab in Regina before they’ll know if it tests positive for West Nile.

Saskatoon health region's Dr Stephen Whitehead says the numbers for Culex Tarsalis are quite low this year, but that doesn't mean people should be careless.

“There is never no risk, but we recognize the risk is certainly not as great yet as it was last year when we had many cases of West Nile Virus.  The risk at this time of the year is always there.”

He says the next three weeks will tell us how severe the threat is for West Nile.  Whitehead reminds people to wear long sleeve clothing, use bug repellent high in DEET, and stay indoors between dusk and dawn.
