Sask. Debates Morgentaler's Appointment to Order
Pro Choice and Pro Life advocates debate appointment
Reaction is mixed in Saskatchewan over the news Dr Henry Morgentaler is receiving the Order of Canada.Saskatoon Humboldt MP Brad Trost is encouraging any constituents upset by the appointment to write to the Prime Minister and the Governor General. Trost says the Order of Canada should unite and not divide Canadians. Trost says the nine member committee has historically chosen people for this honour by a unanimous vote through consensus. He says this time it looks like it was a simple majority that pushed it through. Regina Pro-Life Association is also angered by the appointment. President Bob Waldegger calls the move another example of the country's moral decay. He hopes the public speaks out."What we'd like to see is a real ground swell of concerned citizens talking to the government, making sure that this doesn't happen."However on the other side of the equation, Evelyn Reisner disagrees. She's the Executive Director of the Sexual Health Center in Saskatoon. She applauds the news and calls Dr Morgentaler a true pioneer of women's rights in Canada. She says Morgentaler had no vested interest in legalizing abortion, he just felt as a doctor it was the right thing to do.

I am disgusted with Henry Morgentaler receiving the Order of Canada. He is someone who is responsible for the murder of thousands of Canadian Citizens. I would hardly consider that honorable!!

Funny how i don't see you people up in arms when your priests molest children, mismanage public/community funds, racism, segregation, promotion of violence against some one/entity, and also combining religion's issues into state affairs. By the way some of those Canadian Citizens you are talking about could be your priests illegitimate children. Truly sickening... In certain situations it should be in persons civic rights to make a decision what to do and not some blabbering bible waving lunatic telling us what to do with our lives.

It's a sad day when the Order of Canada is awarded to one who does not respect human life of which made Canada greatly respected and a welcome place to live prior to this invasion of selfishness and negligence. Henry Morgentaler has produced a "blight" on our nation leaving immeasurable consequences.

Our country was not founded on such lack of morality. How sad for this young generation who is not taught accountability and responsability. Mr Morgentaler's appointment is an insult to the most basic morality.

Morgentaler is a revolutionary Canadian that changed the history of this country. He went up against everyone and risked his own safety to increase the rights and safety of women in this country. He did something many Canadians never would have done and for this he deserves to be recognized and appreciated. Even if it goes against your beliefs you have to respect that.
