Saskatoon Humboldt MP Angered by Morgentaler Appointment
Saskatchewan residents also unhappy
Saskatoon-Humboldt MP Brad Trost is not at all happy with the decision to appoint abortion rights activist Doctor Henry Morgentaler to the Order of Canada.
Trost says the decision should be something that is unifying, not divisive.
Trost maintains the nine member committee has historically chosen people for this honour by a unanimous vote through consensus. He says though, this time it looks like it was a simple majority that pushed it through, although he admits they are still investigating that.
Trost is telling people in his riding to call the Prime Minister's Office, or the Governor General's office if they disagree with this appointment.
Reaction to Morgentaler's honour in Saskatchewan has been largely negative. On the streets, and during News Talk Radio's Reality Check with John Gormley Wednesday morning, a big majority of people say they disagree with the appointment.

Since Morgentaler received the Order of Canada what honour will it be for any exceptional Canadian to receive this award from now on? To me it is making an insult for this supposedly prestigious award. God has put us here on earth to respect the life of all individuals not to work to destroy some lives.

who sponsors canditates for this so-called honour ? i sincerely hope that previous receivers inform the federal government they wish to retract from being listed as Order receipients and future candidates decline until Morgentaler is declined. Do not direct your anger towards Harper on this issue. He is not involved in the awarding of the Order of Canada. It is decided by a council.

I would assume the people who are opposed to Henry getting the Order of Canada is because of his beliefs,and are these same people infavor of the return of the death penalty?

Dr Morgentaler's should not be awarded the Order of Canada.
The Order of Canada is awarded for 'the betterment' of Canadians.
While millions of Canadians support his actions on abortion the simple fact is millions do not.
This award should unify Canadians not cause deep division which as we've seen already has.
The Governor General and the Advisory Committee made up of Chief Justice Beverley McLachlin should recognize this and negate the award.
This action is not to punish Dr Morgentaler but to keep this award respectable for present, past and future recipients and the respect of all Canadians.
To do otherwise will minimize and tarnish the award now and in the future.
