What Are You Doing For Earth Day?

earth day

I am shocked at the amount of people that are doing nothing for earth day. Dont get me wrong I am far from a tree hugger, but we all have to do our part to reduce waste and conserve energy. As for global warming and receeding glaciers I feel that this is just a natural cycle and we just happen to be caught in the warming phase of this cycle. 10 million years from now the glaciers will probably be growing again.

in 1992 we gave up having

in 1992 we gave up having two cars, bought an old two bedroom house ten minutes from work in a poor downtown neighbourhood and we carpool or bus it when we don't walk. Our old house has been completely redone with insulation and other energy saving measures. We have a newer model 4 cylinder drive car very good on gas and we supplement our home use of power with solar and wind. I grow my own veggies without pesticides in my own back yard garden. I did nothing for earth day because I live earth day.

Ten million years? If we

Ten million years? If we have a few more winters like the one just ending, it will be more like ten years before the glaciers start growing. But I understand why people are answering the poll with "nothing," it is probably not quite true but more of a reminder to the green crowd that people are feeling pushed around by the scolds in the far-left environ-mental(ly ill) movement with their constant demands for economic sacrifice from everyone but themselves (as university professors and swivel servants they are not part of the real economy). This is one way to say "shove it" to the chicken little crowd and their constant drumbeat of doom that seems oblivious to a distinct lack of resonance in real world results.

I'm not surprised in the least. Almost everyone already practices some manner of conservation and is fairly sick of being told they don't do enough by people with an agenda (I don't mean you). Just about everyone recycles, drives less, checks how many lights they have on... you know the drill. That is somehow not enough for lefties is a nuisance of pathological proportions. Were sick of it. That's why the response is what you see above.

With the thickening polar

With the thickening polar ice sheets and the sun going into what seems to be a relatively inactive period, we may be noticing increases in glaciers in the next 5 to 10 years.

we do this everyday ...

We do this everyday, especially here in Saskatoon. Having lived in many other places, including another country, Saskatoon is very environmentally aware and physically active. Why do this for only one day - here, we do it everyday!
Great job, Saskatoon!

WHAT???, you mean to tell me

WHAT???, you mean to tell me that they actually have a waste of time and ENERGY EARTH DAY to go along with the waste of time and ENERGY EARTH HOUR. WOW all the brainwashed people must be having a HAY DAY on EARTH DAY. I will be doing nothing different as i am not one of the brainwashed.

DITTO!

Yes, I too am going to do absolutely NOTHING TODAY! I'm going to SAVE MY ENERGY for the rest of the week of chaos and hard physical labor, which will include my usual daily attempts at preserving our earth, while junkies and less respectful types litter used needles, condoms, fast food containers, drink bottles, glass liquor bottles (can't be too hard up for cash if they don't try to get money be recycling them), etc., etc., BY:

1. Sorting and preparing all the excessive amount of cardboard and paper goods, including Wasteful, Unwanted, non-purchased FLYERS, NEWSPAPERS, COUPONS along with the cardboard from my CEREAL BOXES, CARDBOARD LAUNDRY SOAP BOXES, ETC. THOUSANDS OF COMPUTER PRINT-OUTS THAT EVERY SALESPERSON, BANK, BOMBARDS ME WITH EACH TIME THEY WANT ME TO SPEND MONEY ON THEIR PRODUCTS! I break down all of them until I have enough to fill up my large cardboard box, which is easily done, as that is the amount of paper trash I receive in our mailbox since Monday and I know there will be more in my mailbox again today, Wednesday eve! The Cardboard box I am filling is half the size of our new rollout garbage container! Anything that is a paper product that can be recycled, including envelopes, regular Pizza Joint Advertising, Fast Food Advertising, Crown Corporation Advertising, Government Party "Surveys" mailed to our name and address - it all hits that box!
2. Rinse each and every drink container that can be recycled & place in separate container.
3. Rinse & remove the labels from each and every tin can that can be recycled & place in separate container.
4. Rinse each and every glass beverage container that can be recycled (somewhere outside of Saskatoon) & place in separate container.
5. Place all mop-heads into washing machine, use detergent free laundry soap and use only the minimum level of water, to avoid using disposable cleaning products and then hang them outside in the wind and dirt to dry for use tomorrow when I try to clean the house, as we have allergy to dust-mites!
6. I won't waste water by having a shower or cleaning. I have unplugged each and every item in my home, including the TV and the refrigerator, because buying & storing food would be wasting power, so I only buy what I can purchase for our meals. I compost what I can! Today I will DO NOTHING but try to enjoy the outdoors, while excessive amounts of fast food containers, used needles and condoms, and other trash littering our entire front lawn and the street greet me!
7. I will hand rake my lawn and place the stuff that I rake into my compost bin that never gets to the point of being able to return to the soil - as soil!
8. I will gather up all the cardboard egg cartons and drop them off at the nearest Co-op.
9. I will wash, hang to dry & gather up all the WASTEFUL light plastic grocery bags back to the store that has a bin for recycling plastic bags, even though every store still makes them freely available to customers!
10.I will wash and dry all the yogurt, salad dressing, mayonnaise and margarine type plastic containers to bring to the food bank for reuse!
11.I will rinse well, each and every dish in the sink before placing it in the dishwasher that I only run ONCE a week, so that the dishwasher can actually CLEAN our dishes when we have to run it - so as to save power and water!!
12.I'll load up my TRUCK with all of the above and buy $25.00 of over-priced GASOLINE to insure that I don't anger any recycling Depot by trying to drop it all at one place, - so I drive to each and every different Drop-Off Location - so that all of my household recyclables, including the stuff I didn't ask to be brought to my home, can be properly and safely disposed of.

OH MY GOSH! All of that work took me through to Friday Night, using up my one and only monthly day off and now I again have a new batch of flyers in my mailbox (the "No Flyer's Sign isn't adhered to) with another batch to come either Saturday night or Sunday morning, so I will have to go through the same recycling process again on Sunday or Monday! Oh, Oh! I forgot to take out that small bag of trash to the Garbage Container! Oh, well, maybe next week!
SO......Why Doesn’t the City just provide Pick-Up & appropriate Recycle Bins for Each Item to be picked up with the Garbage and brought to the appropriate Recycling Depot?

Very True

Very true.
Not to mention the bird poo that lands one your clean clothes out on the line or the doggie doodoo that is also all over our front lawns, sidewalks, alleys and streets, along with the litter and needles. it makes walking quite a challenge.

We do the right things

We do the right things everyday right now. We've changed the bulbs in the house to CFL, which I hate, we recycle everything we can. We drive less than we ever have before. I can't do any more. Quite frankly, I'm getting sick of having this Earth thing shoved done my throat every time I turn around.
Enough already, I think society gets it.

The question could also have

The question could also have been phrased, "what new thing are you doing today for earth day? We are pretty conscious of it and try pretty hard to recycle, reuse, and conserve energy. I don't feel the burning desire to do any more at the present time.

Nothing? This speaks volumes

Nothing? This speaks volumes about some of the small minded people out there. Go ahead continue to live in a bubble.

I am doing nothing different

I am doing nothing different than I did yesterday. Some people like myself try to do things every day and not just once a year. I would say the people who only do things once a year, on this day, are the ones living in a 'bubble'.

First Earth Day

What are you still doing alive, Tom? All the big names of the first Earth Day said we only had 5 to 30 years left before we were all dead. Just Google "paul ehrlich", "kenneth watt" and "george wald".

We are also not doing

We are also not doing anything different than we do every other day of the year. We recycle everything possible, have upgraded our house, do not drive unnecessarily, make a conscious effort not to pollute and are not taken in by the climate change scam being foisted on society in an attempt to control our lives. The only small minded people are those that believe this semi-religious nonsense or still continue throw garbage around. We should all reduce pollution of what ever nature as technology and real science allows us to.

Well, to be fair, I think

Well, to be fair, I think that the only reason so many people voted for "nothing" is because options such as "Going for a random drive in order to burn a full tank of gas" or "Cleaning my Oven and BBQ" or "stress-testing my Air Conditioner" were unavailable.

Me, I think I'll rig up a ceramic heater and an air conditioner in the same room, and race them to see which one wins.

I just voted nothing due the

I just voted nothing due the previous comment.

Tom ; Sorry, planned a

Tom ;
Sorry, planned a politically correct reply but got to go run out and fill the pick up .
It's been idling all day.
And the sky is beginning to fall.

Commie day

The people who are doing nothing on Earth Day are not small minded, on the contrary, they know what a scam this entire man made climate change is and how badly ripped off we are going to be while NOTHING is going to change the natural climate changes that the earth has always endured.

Indeed it does

It speaks volumes that people are finally starting to wake up and realize that the environmental hysteria going on around them. It is in fact small-minded sheep like yourself who live in the bubble, denying the reality that the Earth is in great shape.

In our home we conserve

In our home we conserve energy by using the newest bulbs, separate our garbage into compost and two types of recycle (glass and plastic or paper), lower the heat at night and do whatever else we can to reduce pollution.
However, Earth Day means nothing to me. I'm not going to do anything different but I'm willing to bet that what I do do is far more than what some of the people making negative comments here have ever done.
Don't be appalled because I'm not recognizing Earth Day. Be pleased that I recognize that our good planet needs a bit of cleaning up and I do my part every day of the year.
BTW, I don't believe in Global Warming either.
NeilD

Well, I am actually not

Well, I am actually not doing anything. I intend to light a fire, leave the house lights on, and make some lentil soup - lentils have to be flown or trucked in a long distance here - so in general I'll be increasing my energy use and pollution output, in fact.

So much for cultists.

I do nothing for the

I do nothing for the environment. I am 44 years old. Since I was old enough to reach a light switch my Mom and Dad told me to turn off the lights. It had nothing to do with glo-bull warming, it had everything to do with saving money. I conserve energy for my own good, no one else. If it has an effect on the environment so be it.

I am one of the ones doing

I am one of the ones doing nothing. Its not because I dont wantto save our earth but becase i do small things every day. But no I am doing nothing special today as i dont usually like these types of events where people put on a bigshow for teh day then go back. A few years ago i decided to make a change in how i lived, and so I have. What is the bigger impact one day or small changes for my lifetime?

I'm one of those who picked

I'm one of those who picked "nothing". We already cut our electricity in half last year by installing laptops/CF bulbs/all that. I suppose CKOM isn't interested in doing its part by cutting its transmitting power down in half as well? Oh yeah...conservation is for the little people LOL

Reverse Psychology

I used to be very aware of my habits, recycled almost everything. Until I was forced to. Charged for fees that never went towards what they were intended, almost fined for throwing out certain items etc. Tree Huggers are dangerous, don't know simple mathematics and fuel there love for the planet with misguided emotion and not facts.

I now throw everything away in protest, beer bottles, dirty oil, newspapers, everything I can. I encouraged my father to burn a couple of tractor tires on the farm today, just because he can. !!

Bite me GreenPeace. I hope my computer is being powered by so called green wind power that has managed to kill a few birds today.

I will not do "nothing" today I will undo some of what they call doing "something", I think I'll throw out some old flashlight batteries and put a 10,000 flushes puck into my toilet tank.

Cheers.

Ironically, the people doing

Ironically, the people doing nothing won't be driving to any rallys, or printing any brochures to brag about the nothing they are doing .... I'm just sayin....

Doing nothing

Heck no, blow drying the dishes with a hair dryer. With all the appliances running, I hope I don't blow a fuse like some of the granola crunching, tree hugging econuts.

Earth Day

I'm gonna rake my lawn, clean so I can then secretly put fertilizer, herbicide, and pesticide, for a nice green yard. All my trendy friends will be so impressed.

Then I'll start a BIG-ASSED fire in my firepit, and burn the lawn clippings, and branches trimmed from my trees and shrubs. For supper I'll get some greasy takeout food, the kind wrapped in way too much foil, and plastic.

Then I'll burn that too!!

Myself i have, a New energy

Myself i have, a New energy efficient furnace, new energy saving windows, lots of trees and flowers on my property.Recycle my paper, cans ,bottles.Feed the birds.Don,t throw garbage on the ground, don,t buy carbon credits, don,t believe in the green movement, don,t believe in global warming, don,t give a crap about the countries that are not developed after receiving billions in aid and money for 50 or so years. What,s with them anyway, are they stupid ?.Always tell anyone who listens that i would never vote Liberal..I use the new twirly energy efficient light bulbs, but i heard they will cause more environment trouble for us in the future and they use more energy to produce than the old one,s.What,s with that anyway.?I love dogs and chipmunks and still drive a big car.I refuse to drive or be seen in one of those death cars, you know the ones where the drivers are saying look at me i,m a fool and if i hit a speed bump i,m a goner.I wouldn,t allow those things on highways.I could go on and on,but needless to say i didn,t do anything different on earth day than i did on my birthday or any other day.I,m just a normal Canadian who knows whats good for the planet and whats bad for the planet without having some idiot tell me everyday.

Dumb

Why Canada is worrying about global warming is a mystery to me. Maybe they are afraid that if Canada warms up (and becomes more livable as a result) it will get invaded.

Global Warming

I notice the name changed from "Global Warming" to "Climate Change" with not much effort. Suzuki would be proud. Stupid, but proud. We have just come off one of the coldest winters on record, and we still yammer on about climate change. By this time in April we usually have warm weather, the snow is gone from the tree lines and the earth has turned relatively green. Not this year. And with a low of -9 degrees forecast for tonight, it would appear we are not ready for summer just yet. I do my part to protect the planet, and I wish the Al Gores of the world who fly around in corporate jets and make money on carbon credits and cap and trade would do as much. What a crock we have created.

Every day

Some people make an effort every day and some people do it on Earth Day. Which do you think benefits the Earth the most? Poor survey when the selection of "nothing" can be interpreted so negatively.
