Vérité Films, the company which produced Corner Gas and other national and internationally recognized TV shows over 15 years is packing it in in Regina to set up shop in Toronto.

Company president Virginia Thompson says they are being forced to make a very difficult decision. She says the company cannot operate in the only province which, as of Sunday, will no longer offer a film tax credit.

"It's brutal, you know, the office is surrounded by boxes and movers are coming tomorrow and I'm saying goodbye to my colleagues," said Thompson.

"There's no rhetoric here. We're letting people go and we won't be telling Saskatchewan stories and that's hard."

She says Vérité has brought over $100 million worth of TV production to Saskatchewan over 15 years.  The decision will affect as many as 600 crew members during times of production. 

It is the latest and most prominent casualty of the Wall government decision to end the film tax credit. Less than two weeks ago, Partners in Motion announced it would be closing its head office in Regina.

Beyond Corner Gas,  Vérité Films produced Insecurity, Incredible Story Studio, and Renegade Press.com.
