Sport is about tradition.
Sport is about tradition. Apparently, some of the powers at the CBC do not understand. Without the theme, it is not really Hockey Night in Canada. Someone told me that something like 50% of CBC revenue comes from this one program. It is hard to believe that they would be so foolish as to mess with the one program that is a consistent winner.
If they really must change
If they really must change the theme for Hockey Night in Canada, I feel Stompin' Tom's well known song is the only acceptable, change. Brian McFarlane
Just teaching my 18 month
Just teaching my 18 month old daughter the music and I can't imagine this changing. She starts dancing when my wife and I hum or whistle the music She has caught on fast and now she keeps saying hockey, hockey. Very proud dad!
HNIC Theme
It doesn't bother me at all that the CBC may lose the current theme. A more appropriate theme would be an adaptation of another alternate Canadian anthem: The Maple Leaf(s) Forever.

Just as stupid as leaving a game to show a repeat of a repeat... I can still see Dave Hodge tossing his pen, "Typical CBC"!

HNIC changing theme song
How can you tell that the CBC does NOT answer to a Board of Governors, or shareholders? Any company with this set up would can the clown(s) who made the final decision. I suspect the Mother Corp is in self destruction mode. Soon it shall not exist!

For taxpayers to pa $500 to someone each time this song is played is a farce.
I am glad for once the government did the right thing and cut off this freeloader whom for 40 years has been ripping us off.
Hockey Theme
The theme must stay! They would foolish to not go to all costs to keep this theme. Prove the CBC naysayers wrong! Get the theme. It is yours, how tough could it be?
NHL theme
I haven't been a "true" hockey fan since expansion, BUT, messing around with the theme of the entire concept really bothers me. It seems we can't depend upon anything staying "true" these days. This, I might add, is the "last straw".
