  • Record Boxes Found At The Correctional Centre

    Contain offender program files and personnel information

    A box containing correctional centre records has been found in a storage room at the Regina Correctional Centre this weekend.

    The boxes contain files that aren't in use but still have personnel and offender information inside, which should be stored securely under the Archives Act.

    The issue though is where the storage room is according to the Minstry's Judy Orthner, which is next to the kitchen and very active and busy public area.

  • FNUC Censured By Teachers Association

    Shouldn't disrupt classes

    Another setback has arisen for the First Nations University of Canada.

    The Canadian Association of University Teachers moved to censure the school at its annual council meeting over the weekend, insisting the school hasn't done enough to fix its governance structure. There have been concerns over the academic freedom and interference by the Federation of Saskatchewan Nations since a 2005 incident involving FSIN Vice-Chief Morley Watson.

    Jim Turk with the CAUT says the school was warned six months ago this would happen.

  • STC Expands Bus Security

    New measures now in place

    As of Monday bus travel should be even safer in Saskatchewan.

    Saskatchewan Transportation Corporation is introducing the implementation of more new security measures. Additions include cameras on the inside and outside of every bus, better lighting, a plexi glass shield to separate drivers from passengers, and GPS systems with emergency alert buttons.

  • Meteorite Chunks Found On Farm South of Lloydminster

    12 Pieces Found

    Meteorites from an asteroid that lit up the prairie sky last week have been found on a farm twenty kilometres south of Lloydminster.

    So far twelve meteorites have been discovered, the largest being 250 grams.

    One Friday, Scientists planned to continue their search for more over the weekend.

    Planetary Scientist Dr. Alan Hildebrand from the University of Calgary, says graduate student Ellen Milley who is on the search with him and actually was the first to spot the meteorites frozen in a pond.

    Response to Deadly Mumbai Attacks

    The healing begins for residents in Mumbai and those around the world with ties to India.

    Regina's Hindu Temple held a prayer service and a moment of silence Sunday. The traditional service was meant to promote creativity and a sense of calm.

    Temple president Harjit Singh Bajwa explains the service is an appeal to the fire god to calm the destructive fires in the world, and to ask for peace.

    Opposition Still Working on Coalition

    The federal government has confirmed Finance Minister Jim Flaherty will bring down a budget earlier than expected, on January 27th.

    Flaherty's economic update on Thursday was attacked by the opposition parties, who say it does not contain anything to stimulate the Canadian economy. They hope to vote down the government a week from Monday, in a vote of non-confidence, and govern with a coalition.

  • Police Could Be Asked To Investigate Power Outage

    SaskPower: Insulators Appear To Have Been Shot

    SaskPower says police may be called in to investigate after a massive power outage Saturday night in the central part of the province.

    Larry Christie with SaskPower says dozens of insulators on three "H-frame" structures along a one-mile stretch of a 72-kilovolt line southwest of Saskatoon were damaged, knocking off the juice for 20,000 to 30,000 customers. He says it appears the insulators had been shot.

  • Bomb Squad Responds to Regina Police Station

    Suspicious Container Turned Out to be Safe

    A bizarre incident shut down Regina police headquarters to the public Saturday afternoon.

    Police say around 4 p.m., a man walked in carrying a large Rubbermaid container, waited his turn at the front desk, then said that the container was "nuclear".

    The bomb squad responded, the container was X-rayed, and it turned out to contain clothing and cleaning supplies.

    Police say the man was taken into the care of the mental health unit.
