A giant icicle in Saskatoon that met its demise now has a cousin in Prince Albert.

The three-storey icicle attached to a Prince Albert apartment building on 27th Street East stirred up controversy this week when an area resident complained to the city’s bylaw department.

“We’ve received our first call ever in Prince Albert history,” said bylaw manager Suzanne Stubbs.

Elk Ridge Resort has been singled out by Reader's Digest Magazine as one of nine must-see Canadian winter resorts.

It is the only resort from Saskatchewan mentioned.

"It certainly came as a surprise and certainly big kudos goes to Arne Petersen and family for the destination spot they've built here," said Elk Ridge's director of operations Ryan Danberg.

Danberg said he is not sure what criteria went into the article. They were simply asked to submit photos and a list of their amenities to Reader's Digest.

Dogs from all over the Prairies will be heading to Prince Albert for the All Breeds Dog Show.

The Prince Albert Kennel and Obedience Club's event will showcase a wide range of dogs.

“We’ve got a multitude of breeds, we always have a nice variety of dogs,” said show superintendent Kathy Horne.

They are divided into seven categories, said Horne.

“You will see hounds, terriers, sporting dogs, working, herding, non-sporting and toys.”

A Pelican Narrows man charged in connection with the death of a man in northern Saskatchewan will remain in custody while he awaits his next court date.

Thurston Jack Thomas, 24, made a quick appearance Tuesday in Prince Albert Provincial Court and had his case adjourned until March 20. The case was brought to Prince Albert to deal with Thomas’ outstanding matters in the city and will eventually be moved back to Creighton once those are dealt with.

Thomas is charged with second-degree murder in the death of 39-year-old John James Ballantyne.

People shaving their heads to raise money for cancer research is nothing new. It’s been a campaign that has lived under many names for years.

But when an 11-year-old girl decides she wants to shave her head to raise money with no campaign to follow, only to support her friend who has cancer, that is a type of maturity and bravery not seen in many children or even some adults.

So when Madison Simpson of Prince Albert approached her mother Jackie Garrow about shaving her head to raise money for her friend with cancer, her mother was stunned.

The Prince Albert RCMP are investigating an accident that has killed a 34-year-old man on Highway 2. 

Paramedics from Parkland Ambulance responded at 5:46 a.m. to reports of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle one km south of Christopher Lake.

The man was transported to Victoria Hospital in critical condition. He later died from his injuries.

According to the RCMP, the Air Ronge man was struck by a vehicle while lying on the highway.

Harvesters of the Saskatchewan Chanterelle mushroom are worried for their future reaps should the provincial government go forward with their 20-year forest management plan that targets island forest.

It looks at logging certain trees in the forest, to accomplish what they hope is a long-term plan for the future livelihood of the trees.

One of the four forests being looked at is the Torch River Forest near Nipawin, which is home to many chanterelles and some are concerned any disturbance will kill them off.

Saskatchewan justice officials are hoping a shooting incident at an Alberta courthouse this week does not happen here.

On Tuesday in Whitecourt, a sheriff was shot in the hand during a scuffle with two prisoners at a courthouse. Two men fled in a prisoner transport van, but were arrested a short time later. The incident has prompted Alberta's solicitor general to call for a review of courthouse security.

A Pelican Narrows man has been charged with second-degree murder after RCMP determined the death of a 39-year-old man originally thought to have been in a snowmobile accident is a homicide.

John James Ballantyne was brought to Flin Flon General Hospital in Flin Flon, Man. on Saturday with life threatening injuries which emergency workers originally attributed to a snowmobile accident 30 kilometers outside of Creighton.

A 13-year-old boy has experienced firsthand what could happen when school buses do not use their flashing stop arms within Prince Albert city limits under a decades-old bylaw.

On Jan. 30, he was crossing in front of the school bus to get home and was hit by a truck. At Monday night’s city council meeting, Keegan Wolf addressed the issue with a victim impact statement.

On the day of the accident, he said he got off the bus and looked both ways.
