DETROIT - Jimmy Howard's cat-quick reflexes in net and easygoing nature out of it are big reasons the Detroit Red Wings are on a roll.

Howard has held top-seeded Chicago to only one goal in two straight games, lifting seventh-seeded Detroit to a 2-1 series lead. He was the star of the end-to-end, high-paced Game 3 the Red Wings won 4-1 on Monday night, when he became their first goalie to face at least 40 shots without giving up more than a goal in the playoffs since Greg Stefan did it 1987.

CHICAGO - Carli Lloyd is on the roster for next month's exhibition against Canada, the midfielder's first appearance with the U.S. women since breaking her left shoulder in mid-March.

Lloyd was among 21 players called up Tuesday by coach Tom Sermanni for the June 2 game in Toronto, a rematch of last summer's semifinal at the London Olympics. The Americans beat the Canadians and then defeated Japan for their third straight gold medal, with Lloyd scoring both goals in the 2-1 final.

INDIANAPOLIS - Pacers forward David West is expected to play Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals at Miami, despite an injured right leg.

Team doctors held West out of Monday's practice with what coach Frank Vogel described as a calf strain or lower leg strain. He did shoot around with his teammates after practice ended. Vogel said doctors thought it would be best to give West a day off.

Pacers centre Roy Hibbert had his right thumb taped after getting hit in practice. He finished the workout and it is not expected to keep him out of the Miami game on Wednesday night.

CHICAGO - The Boston Red Sox have activated relief pitcher Andrew Bailey from the 15-day disabled list before their game Monday against the Chicago White Sox.

Bailey had been out since April 29 with right biceps inflammation. He threw 17 pitches in a rehab assignment Saturday at Triple-A Pawtucket.

"Obviously, this is where you want to be," Bailey said. "Healthy, and with the team. Just looking forward to getting back out there."

ARLINGTON, Texas - David Murphy's three-run shot was barely enough against Miguel Cabrera's three home runs.

Murphy put Texas ahead for good with a drive just over the wall in right field in the sixth inning, and the Rangers spoiled the second three-homer game of Cabrera's career with an 11-8 victory on Sunday night.

"Very nice to be on the winning side," Murphy said. "Big game, fun game, national TV. We got to witness the best hitter in the game hit three homers."

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Brandon Morrow thought his day at the ballpark went pretty well — other than those two homers by Robinson Cano.

Pitching with three extra days' rest, Morrow gave up five runs over five innings and the Toronto Blue Jays fell 7-2 to the New York Yankees in their ninth straight loss at Yankee Stadium.

"I felt like I threw a lot better than what the scoreboard indicated," Morrow said, "but just that, you know, New York's Robinson Cano, he was the whole ballgame."
