Good Samaritan Orphanage - Grand Goave, Haiti

An orphanage is both a terrible and wonderful place to be in Haiti.  Terrible, in that the only reason a child is there is because he or she is an orphan, without the love and security of a parent.  Wonderful, in that is absolutely the safest place to be for a child - often even with parents - in Haiti.  These kids are not only fed and supervised to a certain extent, but have a sense of structure to their day - integral to a child's development.

There are so, so many children in Haiti, - millions - and I'd venture that the majority, if not close to all of them are at risk.

Very first little one we saw, just a minute or two after leaving the compound on our first day.  I started referring to him as Baby Boy, and got a bit too attached to him.

Baby Boy after a bath, some food and medicine, and clean clothes.
