Warm Weather, Happy Thoughts

posted by Michelle Hugli
June 21st, 2008

June 21 is one of my favourite days of the year! I love this day because: 1) it's the longest - it's nice to see the sun up so early and stay up long into the evening. 2) it's the summer solstice and 3) it's National Aboriginal Day. I love the summer, the heat and the sunshine. I love seeing the festivities in the parks. I love walking around my neighbourhood, downtown and around Wascana Lake (or by the river when I'm in Saskatoon). I love getting ice cream and hamburgers and eating outside.

I am so glad summer is finally here!

Mourning The Loss of a Bison Burger

They took my burger away. I went to the Freehouse last night with some friends and was really looking forward to having a bison burger. I was totally craving one - my mouth was watering and my stomach was grumbling and I had decided I was going to get it long before I got to the restauant. But it didn't happen because THEY TOOK IT OFF THE MENU. Not the burger. Just the bison. You can get a beef burger (and a good one too), but it's just not the same. Not even close.

New Word On The Street

There's a new magazine in Regina, but I'm not sure where you can get it. I bought my copy from a guy standing on a street corner. He stopped me as I was walking by and asked if I was interested in buying a copy. He didn't list a price, just asked for a donation. So I gave him a donation and got a copy. I'm always interested in reading different perspectives and have an interest in alternative media to see what others are talking about.

All These Worms Are Grossing Me Out!

posted by Michelle Hugli

The worms are driving me crazy! They're all over the place. I have three huge trees in my yard (which I didn't band - I'm a fairly new homeowner and it didn't occur to me earlier. Lesson learned!). Those silky webs are draped all over my yard and house. I can't walk to my garage without feeling them cling to my skin and hair. The front and side of my house are plastered with these worms - they're even on the front window and awning. When I opened the front door to get my mail the other day, three or four worms came swinging right into my house! Eewww!

It's Time To Forgive

I had no idea just how powerful the apology would be until I sat down and listened to Prime Minister Stephen Harper apologize for the residential schools and the impacts they’ve had on my family and thousands of aboriginal people across Canada. His words moved me to tears and gave me hope that we can forgive one another and move beyond this horrific era of Canadian history.

Idol Needs to DIE!

posted by Michelle Hugli

CTV kicked off yet another season of Canadian Idol last night. Why is this show still on? Why won't it just die already? Really, I'd like to turn on the TV some night and see something other than a lame singing competition, an equally lame D-list dancing show, or "The Moment of Truth" (don't even get me started on THAT one). What a bunch of crap!
