Who are these people? And why do they act this way?
By the way, best insult shouted at Labour Minister Rob Norris -- as overheard by a reporter --- "Gormley lover"!

I had always thought that
I had always thought that organized labour leadership possessed the intellectual capability of a 2 year old, now they've proved it.
SFL
It is obvious that the people in this union have no mind of their own.
They are simply sheep. One sheep got up and walked out and others followed.
One sheep started to sing, the other sheep followed. One a sad commentary for democracy and what a shameful exhibition for any organization be it union or otherwise. If Larry Hubick is your role model, you have problems.
Saskatchewan Federation of Labour convention
This behavior is unbelievable. I have never seen anything so childish and selfish. It's about time these spoilt brats have been told and have to actually do something that benefits the people of Saskatchewan, after all they are called "Public Servants" and do work in the "Public Service". How arrogant! I take my hat off to the Labour Minister as I would have walked out on these dispectful houligans. I'm sorry I cannot agree with their behavior.
Do you expect anything less
Do you expect anything less from an "organization" led by Larry Hubich?
Larry Hubich is an embarassment to my province.
SFL treatment of labour minister
John, this does not surprise me as this is typical union leadership behavior. The typical union member just wants to work and does not pay much attention to who is elected to leadership positions. Consequently the radicals get elected. Thirty-five years ago I had 5 years of working as a member within a union environment and still have a bad taste in my mouth about how they operate.
There is no excuse or
There is no excuse or justification for this behavior. At the very least they were too stupid to realize that acting like this hurt their cause instead of helping it. And just as scary is the fact that many people in there have kids who are gonna take this example away from their parents behavior?? Fantastic... very classy. Way to go Larry & Co.
SFL convention
As a union member in Saskatchewan, I am ashamed and embarrassed at the pathetic, childish, and disrespectful way that Labour Minister Norris was treated as he was "invited to speak" to you at your convention. If that was your idea of cooperation, forget it. In the future, I will support none of you for re-election. Time for grassroots union members to stand up, cry foul, and demand a public apology to the Minister for this classless display. I thank Minister Norris for staying in there, and not descending to their childish level.

Reminds me of when the kids
Reminds me of when the kids on Barney would start singing together.
"O.K. brothers and sisters, time for a group hug and then we get milk and cookies."
Congratulations to the union
Congratulations to the union members who remained seated. For the unionists, "Solidarity Forever" is the equivalent of "God Save The Queen", or"Oh Canada". I know what it is like to be the odd one out at one of the conventions (I didn't stand for Lorne Calvert's standing ovation at last year's convention. I did, however, stand when he entered the room as he was the premier of my province --not all union members are buffoons. I also withstood the pressure of getting on the NDP election bandwagon).
If the members who chose to stand at the back had not resorted to the tactic of extreme pressure (the singing of "Solidarity Forever") I believe that many more members would have remained seated.
Many union members/representatives are primarily interested in improving working conditions for all workers. Many are not NDP supporters. Unfortunately, it is always the extremists that get noticed.
How about tracking down some of the people who remained seated? Or appeared reluctant to move to the back? They may not want to be singled out for attention, but it should at least be noted that some remained seated.
Unforttunatley that wouldn't
Unforttunatley that wouldn't make as exciting a story or bolster John's (and that of most of his listeners') narrow world view. Anyone who is not hard core right or ranting left does not exist for these people.
