Tomorrow night, Thursday the 29th, is the last night for the documentary "Up the Yangtze."  If you haven't seen it yet, you might want to check it out --- it's playing at the Broadway Theatre in Saskatoon.

It's the story of the Three Gorges Dam, which is blocking up the Yangtze River and displacing some of the little people in China, specifically workers on a boat travelling up the Yangzte River.  On the boat are mostly American tourists come to see this Earthly wonder before it disappears forever.  Is the huge undertaking a demonstration of Chinese pride and innovation?  Or is it ruining the ancient ways?

The Broadway Theatre screened this Canadian made movie for me, and it was interesting to say the least.  They try to pin some of the bad vibes on Western expansion, which I'm not sure is the right boogeyman in this particular case, but the movie has some interesting scenes and arguments nonetheless.  The world is changing --- what can we do for victims of history?

The cinematography is beautiful, and the filmmakers have done a great job in capturing the beauty of the region.

If you see it --- let me know what you thought!

Keep watching the screens!
