Last week, Christian Bale was a clean cut, respected method actor, and about to release one of the biggest movies of all time (The Dark Knight, for anyone living under a rock).  This week, he's the center of several controversies.

First, he allegedly assaulted his mother and/or sister.  Details have been sketchy, and though he's still attending premieres for TDK (he attended one in Spain this week), he has an appointment with the police when he's done.  Then it came out a day or so ago, that his cheese had slipped off his cracker during the shooting of Terminator 4.  He was supposed to have thrown out a few threats at the director of photography for screwing up a shot.

What do you think?  Is he going crazy from the heat?  Or is there a marketing conspiracy going on here?  It's funny that all this comes out the week of The Dark Knight.  Plus the deets have been pretty scarce at this point.  I'd like to believe that he did not assault members of his family, that we're not hearing the whole story.  Perhaps more of the story will come out in the next few weeks.  It would be sad if he pulled a Russell Crowe (whose career seems to have suffered based on the stories of his red-hot temper) just as his star was about to really take off.

What do you think?

Oh, yeah --- and new releases this week --- two (hopefully) good ones!  Step Brothers, with Will Farrell and John C. Reilly.  They're a great team, but lets see if they can pull it off.  Semi-pro seemed to have signaled a decline in quality from the team.  Some are saying that Judd Apatow (producer extraordinaire) has been spreading himself too thin, and that you can see that in the final products.  Also out this week --- The X-Files: I Want to Believe.  I'm a big X-files fan, and I can't wait to see this bad boy.  Plot details have been shrouded in mystery --- apparently they kept the script in a locked room, under surveillence.  Even Spielberg hasn't been able to keep that tight of control on his secret projects.  The only thing we know, is that it's not going to be a "mythology" episode (featuring the alien conspiracy).  Instead, they've chosen to do what the fans called a "stand alone" story --- often a monster of the week during the run of the series.

Keep watching the screens!

People should lay off Bale,

People should lay off Bale, at least until it becomes clear what happened. I know he's a star and it comes with the territory, but I feel like we're a bunch of jackels.
