Dir:  Peter Berg  Stars: Will Smith, Jason Bateman, Charlize Theron

Synopsis:  Will Smith plays Hancock, a drunken superhero that the world hates, and Jason Bateman is a public relations expert that's trying to save Hancock's rep.

It's official!  Will Smith is the biggest star in the universe EVER!  Hancock marks the 8th Will Smith vehicle in a row to crack $100 million dollars at the box office!

Hilariously though, the real star of Hancock for me was Jason Bateman.  Mark my words --- if this former teen star keeps picking the right scripts, he's going to go places.  Arrested Development re-launched his star, and he hasn't looked back since.  I read that someone called him the Jack Lemmon for this generation, and I like that comparison.  He's can play the sincere everyman, and his comic timing and delivery are impecable, making him a great comedian.

Anyway, back to Hancock itself.  I really enjoyed the first hour, when we meet Hancock and Bateman's character tries to teach him how to act like a contributing member of society.  However, about an hour in, there's a huge twist, that I really felt threw the movie off.  It goes in a totally different direction.  They should have kept the story focused on fixing Hancock --- the genesis of a hero --- that's where the movie was really shining.  They didn't need the twist.

I didn't seem to hate it as much as some of the other critics though.  I'd say that Hancock is a fun summer popcorn movie --- not the best thing we're going to see this summer, but not the worst either.

I'd also note for Mom's getting bugged by their young un's to see this --- there is more bad language than I'd expected.  Sorry kids!  I just ruined it for you!  But don't worry, the new Batman is coming this month, and there's no swearing there!

3 Dorks out of 5 on the Geek-o-Meter for Hancock.

I probably would have given

I probably would have given this 2 stars (or dorks), but I think you're right that it was good for the first hour until the twist.

hancock was da bomb!

hancock was da bomb!

You're right - that twist

You're right - that twist threw the whole movie off! I liked Will Smith though.
