We've seen more superfluous sequels in the last couple of years than you can shake a stick at --- from Rocky to Rambo to last weekends Indiana Jones IV, and even a Terminator IV is in the works. Why think of new ideas when you can just make an inferior sequel?
I loved the first Beverly Hills Cop --- probably because I was a pre-teen just learning how to fully utilize my swearwords, and along came Eddie Murphy with Delerious, Raw, and finally Beverly Hills Cop. He was like, the Yoda of fast-talkin' cusswords. And the movie still holds up today --- a great, funny adventure movie. However --- Beverly Hills Cop II was not as great. It didn't have the same magic as the original, and it was a stormy sea of funny moments wedged in between boring scenes. And don't get me started on Beverly Hills Cop III --- wow. What a horrible piece of garbage.
My point is --- I can see the value in making a 4th Indiana Jones movie. The first three were great, and left audiences wanting more. Plus it's Steven Spielberg. I may not love everything he does, but I'll watch anything he makes at least once. Beverly Hills Cop IV is set to be directed by Brett "Rush Hour" Ratner. He already made those terrible (and racist) Rush Hour movies AND spoiled the X-men trilogy with a lackluster 3rd entry that changed all the main characters from the first two...that's like taking Luke, Han and Leia out of Return of the Jedi and focusing on Russ Johnson, Starship repairman. What more can we have Ratner destroy? To add insult to injury, they announced that complete waste of skin director McG (what kind of stupid name is that?) is taking the helm of the Terminator series. That was enough to give me a heart murmer.
Okay, anyway, enough negative vibes. I'll complain more once they all come out.
Coming out this weekend is the one that all the ladies have been waiting for --- Sex and the City! C95's Shauna Foster is hosting a Sex and the City party at Durand's Shoes in Saskatoon with cocktails and hors d'orves. She was gracious enough to invite me along, so I'll hit the party, and then myself and 30 female bodyguards will wander over to the Galaxy to see the movie. Should be fun, assuming the ladies don't eat me alive! Look for a review of the movie on Monday!
Keep watching the screens (unless McG and Brett Ratner take everything over)!!
