As of today, Canadians can register their landlines, cel phones and fax numbers with the National Do-Not-Call List, which will keep most telemarketers from calling you. You can sign up by calling this number, 1-866-580-3625 or do it online at the Do-Not-Call Registry.  It doesn't take care of every caller, as charities, political parties, newspapers selling subscriptions and organizations you have an existing relationship with can still ring you up. My advice....if its 1-800...just don't answer.

do-not-call registry

As usual, you guys are on top of all issues that will make life better!!

what a surprise..service not

what a surprise..service not available...did they not expect a ton of hits on this web site the moment they announced it?

I just heard the exemption

I just heard the exemption from the no-call list. So the only people that won't be able to call are the furnace cleaners. All the really annoying ones are exempt - can you say politcal parties.

Interesting. But, will they

Interesting. But, will they block the offshore telemarketing. Over the past two weeks we have gotten telemarketers from China and India at 2:30 and 3:00 in the morning. I'm sure these companies save lots of money having telemarketers in offshore countires. Of course, it is daytime over there but certainly not here. I will be calling Sask-Tel to try and block these calls as it is very upsetting at that hour of the night/morning!!!

do not call

i put my number on the list, but do i really think that the Fed. Govt. will do this well or efficiently? No.

I remember the gun registry.

Do Not Call List

I think we should have the ability to put ourselves on a do not call list for political parties, charitable organizations and such. I pay for my phone line - it is private property and if you want to use it you can pay me for that opportunity. Why don't we have a choice? Not all places use a 1-800 number. I have had such ridiculous # as 123456789. How does that work?
