This 30 sec video from the Rider game in Calgary Monday shows police trying to remove a Rider fan, then something apparently happens to cause a cop to grab another fan and launch them both into the crowd. Reading the comments on YouTube...seems like a good lesson in not jumping to conclusions without knowing all the details.

Drunk and Disorderly
Clearly, booze and idiots do not mix. Add a team you are pulling for getting smoked on the field into the mix and it is a recipe for stupidity at its extreme. However, these louts are an extremely small percentage of the fans, so we have to be careful not to overreact to this scene and the beer can incident at Mosaic Stadium.
Having said that, it is maybe time to begin the process of slowly but inexorably removing all liquor sales in these stadiums, at least after the first half. If you watch that video, there seems to be four or five fans involved. The rest of the dozens of fans in the video seem to just want the incident to be over with.
You will never totally eliminate these people from the gene pool, but we can most definitely influence their ability to get sh_t faced drunk at these sporting events.
What facts need to be known?
What facts need to be known? It's pretty evident in the video that the officer reacted the way he did. The fan reached at the police officer's holster. This holster holds a gun, pepper spray and a baton. Obviously the police officer felt threatened and reacted in such way.
Calgary Rider Game
We were in the stands for the game. Those fans if you want to call them that got exactly what they deserved. Real ambassadors for the province.
Calgary Riger game
I have to disagree that the Roughrider fan got what he deserved. I dont' think he got nearly what he deserved. It's probably a good thing he didn't get what he was reaching for or it could have extremely ugly.

you know what disturbs me is all the rider fan bashing going on in the comments to this video...

If Rider fans, though it may be a small percentage, would quit acting like such idiots, there wouldn't be so much bashing going on. We're getting bashed because of people like this, they're an embarrassment. I've experienced it first-hand.
The last game I went to we had one such idiot behind us and it was hard to enjoy the game because he was very busy badgering friends to buy him more booze after he'd been cut off by the people serving him. He wasn't even paying attention to the game, just kept talking about how loaded he was and how much more loaded he was going to get. I felt sorry for the little boys sitting beside him who had to listen to his lunacy and filthy language. Parents should be able to bring their children and not have to worry about this kind of behavior.
I am totally for the abolishment of liquor from the games.
Please stay in Calgary and don't come back
The clip clearly shows a guy trying to grab the cop. Whatever the case, it's a national embarrassment to have these people "represent" Saskatchewan.
.
To those who were arrested: if you live in Calgary now, please stay there and don't come back. You give us a bad name.
I'll back the cops anytime
I'll back the cops anytime they take down some guy with a bat or knife by way of a taser, or even if they have to shoot. But to tackle somebody in the stands like that endangers far too many innocent people as well as the guy he's trying to arrest. Sure, it's a very stupid thing to try and interfere with a cop who's already in a very hostile mood. No free pass for the dumbass. But the force used was obviously excessive in the extreme. Cops are supposed to be professionals and when they don't act like professionals there need to be consequences and repercussions. This cop needs to be charged with assault, just like the pud who tried grabbing him.
the cop clearly overreacted,
the cop clearly overreacted, he came back and took a punch at the guy, not in self defence, but as an instigator. now i am one of the most pro-police poepel there is, i know the kind of crap they have to deal with and the sacrifices they make, but this is clearly over the line in my opinion, and i too am ashamed that these peopel are from saskatchewan.
I am thinking that it was a
I am thinking that it was a big misunderstanding. The one guy was reaching for something not sure what thou, it might of even been him almost looks like he is falling. The guy was then steping back and the cop dove at him. To me at that point the cop is in the wrong. The guy was out of the situation and the cop used too much force. I do have to agree that alchol and a losing team you are cheering for is not a good mix. We also don't have all the circumstands of the situation. We don't know what was done before to cause the situation in the first place as I wasn't there and most of us commment where not there either. The only people that do are the people that where there. But this is not what a true roughrider fan is. We as roughrider fans are the best in the country and I will challenge any other sports team out there to the best fans around. We have it. Rider Pride.
