Brent Loucks' Blog

90 years ago, World War l came to an end...at a huge cost to Canada, and the world. 68,000 Canadians gave their lives in the Great War, and this week a special project happening across the country pays tribute and also helps us better understand the sacrifice these men and women made. Each evening, names of the fallen are projected on the outside wall of the Saskatchewan Legislature, something that is being done at a number of sites across the country. You can also watch the same event streaming online from the National War Memorial. While you are on the 1914-1918 website, you can do a name search from the list of those who gave their lives. I found four soldiers with the name of Loucks, 2 were with the Manitoba Regiment, which got me to wondering if they may be relatives.
This is hilarious!!! Its a website that does an entire legitimate looking news story about how your one single vote, caused Barrack Obama to lose the Presidential election...you can add a bunch of names and email addresses....great for a pre-election laugh!!

Wow...this Talk Radio gig really gets results!! This morning I was beaking off with Wray and John about the new Health Card stickers that are coming out and will make your card good for another 3 years. Only problem is, will these cards actually last until 2011?? My card is three years old and with the extremes of hot gasses and high weight load its exposed to, (in my back pocket)....I think the government could be spending some of those resource dollars to give us new cards. Maybe they could make them out of metal...like a mini-license plate...then we could get a human lifetime out of them. Or, for the End of Days crowd, lets just get the tatoo on the forehead or implant under the skin. Anyway, thanks to Premier Brad Wall for not only listening in to my rant, but also acting quickly to deal with my dilemma. Isn't this one of those "band-aid" solutions you hear politicians talk about???

Deb Criddle from Nightingale Nursing was in the station this week as they gave Gormley his annual flu shot. She put me on to this video that helps to educate people about the benefits of sneezing into your sleeve as a way to reduce the spread of cold and flu germs. It even shows a number of different sleeve-sneezing methods.

This is Small Business Week and that seemed like a good reason to talk to Elaine Unrau, the Manager of the Canada-Saskatchewan Business Service Center. Its a great place to get just about all the information you need if you are thinking of starting up a business in Saskatchewan.
If we only knew all the facts. This 30 sec video from the Rider game in Calgary Monday shows police trying to remove a Rider fan, then something apparently happens to cause a cop to grab another fan and launch them both into the crowd. Reading the comments on YouTube...seems like a good lesson in not jumping to conclusions without knowing all the details.

I havent picked up a gun for hunting in about 25 years and as I found out this week...things have really changed!! My friend Bob Bodnarchuk, like most people, is a really busy guy, so when he goes hunting, he needs to make the most of the limited time he has. His answer?? Setting up motion sensor cameras at a couple of locations in the woods to see where and when deer and elk show up. You'll notice the info on each picture shows the time and temp as well. Some interesting photos of wildlife, and a way to make the most of your hunting time.

As of today, Canadians can register their landlines, cel phones and fax numbers with the National Do-Not-Call List, which will keep most telemarketers from calling you. You can sign up by calling this number, 1-866-580-3625 or do it online at the Do-Not-Call Registry. It doesn't take care of every caller, as charities, political parties, newspapers selling subscriptions and organizations you have an existing relationship with can still ring you up. My advice....if its 1-800...just don't answer.
